WSpromolabel_blue_lookMore than 3,000 water utilities, organizations, manufacturers, retailers, distributors, builders, and irrigation professionals certified through WaterSense labeled programs have helped the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) create, educate, rebate, and communicate WaterSense labeled products to consumers. The result? More than 1.1 trillion gallons of water saved, not to mention reducing the energy needed to heat that water.

Since the WaterSense program was launched in 2006, EPA estimates that WaterSense labeled showerheads, toilets, faucets, flushing urinals, irrigation controllers, and pre-rinse spray valves have helped Americans save $21.7 billion in water and energy bills and 1.1 trillion gallons of water, which is more than the amount of water all the households in Texas use in a year. Last year alone, WaterSense labeled products helped reduce water use by 346 billion gallons. These savings are even more critical as parts of the country face extreme drought conditions. WaterSense labeled products provide immediate water savings in the face of drought and, once installed, provide continued water efficiency for the life of the product.

In addition to water savings, WaterSense labeled products have helped reduce the energy needed to heat, pump, and treat water by 146 billion kilowatt hours since 2006, or the amount of energy it takes to power more than 13.3 million homes for a year. This energy reduction equates to a reduction of 54 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions—the equivalent of planting nearly 1.4 billion trees.

More than 14,500 WaterSense labeled models of toilets, bathroom faucets, faucet accessories, showerheads, flushing urinals, and weather-based irrigation controllers have been independently certified for efficiency and performance since 2006. And 449 new homes with water-saving features inside and out have earned the WaterSense label since the program began.
