Quad-State Awards Scholarship
The Quad-State Turfgrass Association has selected Seth English as the recipient of its annual Tom Poore Scholarship, which is given in the amount of $1,000 per academic year. English is a sophomore studying horticulture at Murray State University and has worked at Benton Golf and Country Club for the past six years.
OTF Holds Turfgrass Conference & Show
The Ohio Turfgrass Foundation held its annual Ohio Turfgrass Conference & Show in Columbus, Ohio. The event featured educational seminars, trade show with over 200 companies, keynote address by Dick Durrance, Greens Chairmen’s Day, pesticide recertification, continuing education credits, networking and more.
Project EverGreen Names Contest Winners
Project EverGreen held the “Name That Tune Tour” contest during GIE+EXPO. Participants had to match songs with a green connection to the booth in which they were played. The winners, who received iPod shuffles, were Conley Stephens, Storwood of Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Jeffery Smith, Lawn Care of South Indiana, Sellersburg, Ind.; Kelly Haskett, US Lawns, Defiance, Mo.; Rick South, Macaw Enterprises, Rogersville, Tenn.; and Steven Subert, Combined Locks, Wis.
SSI Releases Rating System, ASLA Opens Call for Entries
The Sustainable Sites Initiative released the nation’s first rating system for the design, construction and maintenance of sustainable landscapes, with or without buildings. The initiative is a partnership of the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and the U.S. Botanic Garden. The rating system represents four years of work by dozens of sustainability experts, scientists and design professionals, as well as public input.
ASLA announced the 2010 awards call for entries. The awards program features six categories: general design, residential design, analysis and planning, research, communications and the Landmark Award.
