AEM Plans Annual Conference
“Critical Ignition” is the theme of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ 2010 annual conference of member companies, which will bring together key industry leaders to discuss market strategies for competitive survival. TPI Field Day Sod Donated to Park
When Turfgrass Producers International held its Field Day at Pine Island Turf Nursery in Pine Island, N.Y., a great deal of turfgrass was harvested during equipment demonstrations. TPI members Chip Lain of Pine Island, Leonard DeBuck of DeBuck’s Sod Farms of New York and Thomas and Kevin Shuback of Shuback Farms collaborated in making arrangements to donate the harvested sod to Veterans Memorial Park in the village of Warwick. The new multipurpose field at the park was completely sodded within hours after Field Day activities had come to a close.
Project EverGreen Announces Director Transition
Project EverGreen announced that executive director Den Gardner will resign his position at the end of 2010, and green industry consultant Cindy Code will be named the new executive director effective January 1, 2011. Gardner helped create the organization in its transition from the former Evergreen Foundation in 2002 and managed it from 2003. Code has been a part of Project EverGreen since 2004 and served two years as president.
Lawn Care Education Day Held
The Illinois Landscape Contractors Association, the Illinois Professional Lawn Care Association and the Chicago Botanic Garden collaborated to present a Lawn Care Education Day, a comprehensive seminar about products, resources and lawn care education geared toward a wide range of professionals in the turf care industry. Speakers included Dr. Doug Brede, Rob Beres, Jean Payne, Mark Brier, Brian Winkel, Kevin Spiller, Tim Kehoe, Jim Spindler, Ken Quandt, Cindy Baker, Tom Fritz, Jim Gorsline, Rich Monahan, Dr. Bruce Steward, Dr. Nick Christians, Warren D. Goetsch and Kerry Anderson.
Garvin Named TCIA President
The board of directors of the Tree Care Industry Association named Mark Garvin as president. The decision followed an extensive executive search involving internal and external candidates. Garvin, who joined the association in 1996, had served as interim president of the association since November.
