Osborne Teaches Landscape Course
Chip Osborne taught a refresher course on lawns and landscapes for Northeast Organic Farming Association Accredited Organic Land Care Professionals, as well as others interested in learning about organic practices. The course focused on growing grass and teaching fundamentals such as lawns and turf, and included topics like soil testing, compost tea, grass types and nutrition. It also covered vegetables, flowers and ornamentals.
IA Volunteers Participate in Renewal & Remembrance
A team of 28 Irrigation Association and other volunteers came together on July 25 to improve and enhance the efficiency of irrigation systems at the nation’s most prominent military cemetery. Representing 11 companies and joined by IA staff, the IA team worked at Arlington National Cemetery as part of the Professional Landcare Network’s annual Renewal & Remembrance event. IA was an official event partner. In addition to IA’s team, PLANET irrigation efforts were led by John Eggleston, a member of PLANET and IA.
ASLA Announces 2011 Honors
The American Society of Landscape Architects announced the recipients of its 2011 Honors. The awards ceremony will take place at the 2011 ASLA Annual Meeting & Expo, Oct. 30-Nov. 2, in San Diego, Calif. This year’s recipients are Laurie Olin, ASLA Medal; Michael Van Valkenburgh, ASLA Design Medal; George Curry, Jot D. Carpenter Teaching Medal; Tupper Thomas, LaGasse Medal; S. Richard Fedrizzi, Olmsted Medal; and JJR, Landscape Architecture Firm Award.
ANLA Visits Congress
A team of green industry business owners representing the American Nursery & Landscape Association went to Washington to explain to Congress that mandating E-Verify, without broader labor solutions, will cost jobs and damage the economy. The ANLA team, representing the states of Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia, met with 20 House and Senate offices and was part of a broader lobbying day that also included coalition partners from New England, Florida, Texas, California and elsewhere.
NAPP Schedules Conference
The National Association of Pond Professionals will host the Water Feature Conference & Expo at the Suncoast Resort in Las Vegas, Nev., Feb. 26-28, 2012. AEM Receives Summit Award
The Association of Equipment Manufacturers has received a Summit Award from the American Society of Association Executives for the AEM Construction Challenge presented by Volvo Construction Equipment. The AEM student-focused workforce initiative promotes greater awareness of construction industry careers and industry contributions to an improved standard of living. AEM was one of six organizations across the country to receive a Summit Award, with the winners chosen from nearly 100 entries received.
