RMRTA to Host 56th Annual Conference
The Rocky Mountain Regional Turfgrass Association has scheduled its 56th Annual Turfgrass Conference & Trade Show for December 8-10, 2009, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Denver International Airport, Denver, Colo. The conference will feature local and national speakers discussing a variety of turf-related topics that apply to landscaping firms, lawn care maintenance, parks and recreation, school districts, sod growers, cemeteries, sports turf, construction, municipalities and golf courses. CLCA Announces Members of Distinction
The California Landscape Contractors Association announced its 2008 members of the year. Mike Baron, national specification and sales manager for water management products for Toro Co., was chosen as the Associate Member of the Year for his contributions to the betterment of the association. A strong advocate of improving irrigation technology and practices, he works closely with Toro’s irrigation sales, marketing and engineering staff while participating in a CLCA leadership role.
CLCA’s Regular Member of the Year was Peter Estournes of Gardenworks, Inc. He was also awarded the 2008 Allegiance Award. In addition to years of chapter leadership, Estournes served six years on CLCA’s board of directors, has been active in the Certified Landscape Technician program, served on the education committee, and led CLCA’s Model Ordinance Task Force.
PLANET Holds Day of Service
The Professional Landcare Network held a Day of Service on Earth Day in which members undertook a variety of volunteer lawn and landscape projects in communities across the country to demonstrate the importance of maintaining green spaces. Iowa City Landscaping worked in parks in Iowa City and Coralville, Iowa, to repair damage from last year’s flooding. Buck & Sons Landscape Service, Inc., Hilliard, Ohio, installed an educational planting display at Britton Elementary School. Richard Heller of Greener by Design donated time and services to the Pelham Art Center, Westchester, N.Y.
