PLANET Holds Day of Service
The Professional Landcare Network held a Day of Service on Earth Day in which members undertook a variety of volunteer lawn and landscape projects in communities across the country to demonstrate the importance of maintaining green spaces. Iowa City Landscaping worked in parks in Iowa City and Coralville, Iowa, to repair damage from last year’s flooding. Buck & Sons Landscape Service, Inc., Hilliard, Ohio, installed an educational planting display at Britton Elementary School. Richard Heller of Greener by Design donated time and services to the Pelham Art Center, Westchester, N.Y. The New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association created a habitat for ruffed grouse at a Boy Scout camp in Hardwick, N.J. For more information, visit http://wwww.planetdayofservice.org.
Caldwell, Collier Elected to TCIA Board
The Tree Care Industry Association has elected Kevin Caldwell to a three-year term on its board of directors. He is president of Caldwell Tree Care, Roswell, Ga.
Terrill R. Collier was installed as the chair of TCIA’s board of directors. He has been the owner, operator and president of Collier Arbor Care, Clackamas, Ore., since 1980.
ANLA Presents Award, Launches Web Site
The American Nursery & Landscape Association presented its 2008 Retail Rising Star Award to Mark Ziemba, general manager of Russell’s Tree & Shrub Farm, East Amherst, N.Y. Ziemba has been with Russell’s since 2001. The company was founded in 1991 and is owned and operated by Russ Gullo.
ANLA has launched a new Web site at www.ANLA.org. The site features easier navigation, detailed member profiles and the Knowledge Center.
ASLA Convenes Blue Ribbon Panel
The American Society of Landscape Architects formed a Blue Ribbon Panel of design professionals to discuss and make recommendations on the National Park Service’s milestone plan outlining a comprehensive overhaul of the historic National Mall.
