The California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) was pleased to honor three members Chuck Carr, Tom Noonan, and Robert L. Crudup, Jr. for their Outstanding Contributions to CLCA at the Annual Leadership Conference and Installation Luncheon in San Jose on Tuesday, January 10.
Chuck Carr was presented CLCA’s 2011 Member of the Year Award by Peter Estournes CWM, CLIA, CLP, prior 2008 award recipient and co-owner of Gardenworks Inc. This award is given annually to a contractor member for outstanding accomplishments and contributions throughout the year.  Chuck was the driving force behind the association’s support of Rock the Boat, a documentary about the Los Angeles River and urban water use.  He is also spearheading the association’s new website and CLCA’s current branding process.  A member of the association since 1993, he became more active in CLCA after starting Carr Landscape Management Inc. in 2000. He was president of the San Fernando Valley Chapter in 2005 and 2006 and co-director of the Chapter Presidents Council in 2007 and 2008. In 2009 he began serving as Communications Director on the CLCA Board of Directors, a position he still holds. In that capacity he also is the publisher of California Landscape Magazine.  He recently sold his company and accepted a new position with ValleyCrest Landscape Maintenance.
Tom Noonan CID, CLIA, water management specialist at Ewing Irrigation Products was presented the 2011 Associate Member of the Year for his multiple contributions to CLCA.  His award was presented by Heath Bedal 2009 President and 2003 Associate Award winner. Tom’s passion for the efficient use of water has been of immense benefit to CLCA’s programs. He first joined CLCA in 2004, was elected to the Board of Directors in 2010/11 as the Associate Member Director where he was responsible for organizing CLCA’s Golf Tournament, which directly benefits the Landscape Education Advancement Foundation (LEAF) which awards scholarships for deserving students entering the industry. In 2010 he also served on the Landscape Industry Show (LIS) Committee, where he is still active today. In November Tom was elected to serve as the Director of the Resource Management Committee. He is currently organizing the Water Management Program Partners Water Technology Showcase for the upcoming LIS event and has been volunteering his time on the Research Advisory Committee for CLCA’s Environmental Research Funding Program since 2007.
Long time member and President of ValleyCrest Tree Company, Robert L. Crudup, Jr. was also awarded CLCA’s Allegiance Award which is the most prestigious award a member can receive.  This award is only given to those who have been a member for at least 15 years, who have actively been involved on the state level for at least 10 years and who are currently active on the state level. Presented to Robert by former Allegiance Award winner Barry Cohen (1980), only 24 people have ever received the Allegiance Award.  A member since the 70s, he became active on the Apprenticeship Committee in 1979 and also worked with a new Certification Committee, which grew out of the Apprenticeship Committee. He chaired the Trophy Awards Program in 1983 and served on the Board of Directors the following year as the Associate Member Representative. In 1991 and 1992 he represented CLCA on the AB 325 Model Water Efficient Task Force. CLCA recognized him as its Associate Member of the Year on three different occasions: 1982, 1984, and 1990. In 2011, he became a life member of CLCA.  He has always been a huge supporter of the Women’s Auxiliary, and was named Knight of the Garter by the Auxiliary in 1992. He continues to stay involved in the association, actively supporting the mission through various efforts including hosting a luncheon during this year’s Summer Family Extravaganza tour at the Valley Crest Tree Company nursery in Fillmore,
Golden Oak Cooperative Corporation was also recognized by 2012 State President, Eric Watanabe, for their support, participation and contributions to the CLCA over the past 15 years.
The California Landscape Contractors Association is a non-profit trade organization of licensed landscape and landscape-related contractors. Also included among its approximately 2800 members are landscape suppliers, landscape architects, public officials, educators, and students. Although formally incorporated in 1952, CLCA has been meeting as an association since 1937.  More information about CLCA is available at www.clca.org.
