Director Of Agronomy Wins Turfco Debris Blower

Turfco 2022 Golf Giveaway
As Director of Agronomy at Cantigny Golf Club, Steve Kuretsky knows the value of using the latest and greatest in turf maintenance equipment to keep the golf courses and grounds at the Wheaton, IL facility looking their best. So, he was especially delighted to learn that he had won Turfco’s 2022 Golf Giveaway Grand Prize – a new Turfco Torrent 2 Debris Blower. “I was tinkled pink, of course, to win a new Turfco Torrent 2 Debris Blower,” said Kuretsky. Since the club already owns one Turfco blower, he was already familiar with the machine’s features and benefits. The Turfco Debris Blower (valued at $8,032) incorporates patented MagnaPoint Technology that locks in settings for a more productive angle at every pass – saving hours of crew time per job.   “What’s really nice about the Turfco Torrent 2 Blower is that you can dial in the angle of the blower and set it to a certain point, so you can make the most effective use of it – rather than having to move the settings around while using it,” he said. “It takes the guesswork out of the job.” Located about 30 miles west of Chicago, Cantigny Golf Club is part of the 500-acre Cantigny Park which occupies the old estate of Col. Robert R. McCormick, former publisher of the Chicago Tribune. The golf course is extremely popular, and keeps the maintenance staff busy throughout the playable seasons. The Turfco Blower gets used regularly throughout the golf season to clear ...

AgriTech, Auburn University Team Up For Auburn-Branded SoilKit

SoilKit
AgriTech Corp. has partnered with Auburn University on an Auburn-branded SoilKit®, with proven results backed by Auburn research. This is the first time a public, land-grant university has partnered with a private company to deliver digital, easy-to-understand soil test results to homeowners, landscapers, farmers and municipalities. SoilKit® can now deliver the proven power of testing and research from Auburn’s College of Agriculture directly to consumers, landscapers, farmers and municipalities through its simplified process of testing soil. With the digital tools SoilKit® provides, such as address geolocation, autofill and satellite-driven square footage calculation, it is now easier than ever to receive quality soil test results with specific product recommendations.   Auburn-branded soil test samples will be tested by Auburn agronomists at the Auburn University Soil Testing Laboratory. After samples are processed, consumers receive a digital version of their soil test results and customized product recommendations via email. The test results and recommendations are based on decades of agricultural research dating back to the founding of the Auburn College of Agriculture in 1872. This partnership benefits both parties as SoilKit® is now matched with a national leader in agricultural science. At the same time, Auburn can connect with a greater number of homeowners and deliver easy-to-understand results and recommendations through SoilKit®’s simplified soil testing technology. “From the beginning, this partnership has always seemed like the perfect fit,” said Christina Woerner McInnis, CEO and founder of AgriTech Corp. “From the SoilKit® side, it’s exciting to partner with Auburn as they are a nationally ...

At Desert Mountain, The Grass Truly Is Greener

golf courses
With seven golf courses to choose from, the members of Desert Mountain—the exclusive Scottsdale, AZ luxury community and private club—are never at a loss for chances to tee it up. But as of this fall, thanks to some changes in the grasses used and maintenance procedures, those courses are greener, more environmentally friendly, and offer more playing experiences than ever. “All seven of our courses are open and green from November 1 to June 1, which is when the most members are here and the weather is spectacular,” explained Shawn Emerson, Desert Mountain’s Director of Agronomy. “We asked the question, ‘Would our members rather play golf in October or August?’ We decided to switch some of our courses to cool-season grasses so they can play all year-round on the best possible conditions.”   To accomplish that, some of the golf courses have been re-grassed while others stayed as they were, with a Bermuda grass base. This creates greater variety while allowing alterations to the maintenance schedule, so more courses are open and green at the best times. It also gives Desert Mountain the distinction of not only having the most golf courses in the Arizona desert, but the greenest courses in the desert, as well. Particularly as the weather gets more comfortable, members return from summer travel, and the golf season gets rolling. “Until two years ago, all our courses had warm season Bermuda grass fairways and tees, which had to be overseeded in the fall,” said Emerson. “They were ...
