John Deere Honor Gators Join Veterans Day Celebrations At National Mall

Veterans Day
As part of this year’s Veterans Day ceremonies commemorating the men and women of the U.S. military, John Deere has partnered with the Trust for the National Mall to support events on the National Mall in Washington, DC. The company has provided three of its XUV835M Honor Edition Gator Utility Vehicles (Honor Gators) to be used by onsite staff throughout the ceremonies, and one Honor Gator will remain with the National Mall as a donation to support future events. The National Mall is visited by an estimated 36 million visitors a year and hosts some of the nation’s most iconic annual celebrations, including the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the National Independence Day Celebration, presidential inaugurations, as well as wreath laying ceremonies on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. John Deere, with support from the Atlantic Tractor dealership, is donating an Honor Gator for use in the planning and execution of these national celebrations and observances on “America’s Front Yard.”   The National Mall spans more than 1,000 acres of greenspace and features the iconic monuments and memorials that symbolize the nation’s democratic values. The Trust for the National Mall is the leading nonprofit philanthropic partner of the National Park Service dedicated to restoring, preserving and enriching and the National Mall. “Veterans Day is an important time on the National Mall when we reflect on the immense sacrifices that the men and women in our nation’s military have made for our country,” said Catherine Townsend, President and CEO at The Trust for ...

U.S. Army Veteran Given New Bobcat Compact Track Loader

veteran
Doosan Bobcat North America and the Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) have presented U.S. Army veteran Andrew Long with a new Bobcat® R-Series T76 compact track loader and 80-inch bucket attachment, together valued at nearly $90,000. The two organizations teamed up at Piedmont Bobcat, the local Bobcat dealer near where Long lives in North Carolina, to personally deliver the machine to the veteran. He also received a framed photograph featuring his new machine and all 45 of the Doosan Bobcat employees who had a hand in assembling it, along with their signatures. Long was randomly chosen as the winner from a pool of candidates and says the T76 will speed up the process of refurbishing the decades-old former tobacco farm he and his fiancée recently purchased in Elon, NC. As a veteran, Long says he is excited to give back to the military community as well.   “The Bobcat T76 compact track loader is a beautiful machine,” said Long. “I have so many projects I want to get started on right away. I hope to support local veterans, either by hiring and teaching them or working with veteran-owned businesses. I want my farm to be a relaxing place for veterans to be understood and respected. Now that I have this machine, my vision for this property will come together much faster and transform my property into a sanctuary for my fellow warriors.” A Deserving Veteran Long, a native of Branchburg, NJ, served in the U.S. Army from 2010 to 2014, including ...

NALP Renewal And Remembrance Event: July 20, 2020

Arlington National Cemetery
On July 20, 2020, members of the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) and the horticulture team at Arlington National Cemetery will work together for NALP’s annual day of Renewal and Remembrance at this sacred site to perform maintenance and improvement on the grounds. As in past years, family members of NALP participants will also take part in the event in Arlington, VA. This is the 24th year for NALP’s Renewal & Remembrance in partnership with Arlington National Cemetery. As in past years, participants will spend the day performing work on turf, landscape, hardscape, and trees on the cemetery grounds. Irrigation work will also be done. The day also includes a Children’s program and two wreath layings. Shaine Anderson, sr. director, education & events for NALP, shares that as this event grows, the association looks to continue expanding this work to other sites such as the recent expansion to the Soldier’s and Airmen’s Cemetery (i.e., other military-focused cemeteries). Work at Arlington National Cemetery is one important part of the NALP trip to Washington. The three-day event combines community service with advocacy as members head to Capitol Hill for Legislative Days on the Hill. There are education sessions where participants can learn the latest information on key issues while networking with other lawn care and landscape companies. Visit this page on the NALP website to sign up for event updates, view the list of companies that are program sponsors, and more.

Military Families Need Your Help

Winter 2019 is going to be a teeth-chattering cold one, with plenty of snow, according to the venerable Farmers’ Almanac. That’s not the news families of deployed military personnel want to hear since clearing driveways and sidewalks of snow and ice is physically taxing, and a real hardship when one of the primary heads of household is not there. That’s why the need for volunteers remains strong and Project EverGreen, in partnership with BOSS Snowplow, is once again teaming up to make a difference this winter by encouraging snow management professionals to register to become a Project EverGreen SnowCare for Troops volunteer. Now in its ninth year, the need for SnowCare for Troops volunteers is still tremendous. With military deployments occurring regularly across the U.S., new volunteers are needed in all states to provide snow removal service to the families of deployed military personnel. Volunteers are matched with families within their service area. “SnowCare for Troops provides military families in need with peace of mind and lifts a significant burden from their plates,” says Cindy Code, executive director of Project EverGreen. “We’re very grateful for the commitment of our dedicated volunteers and the continued support from BOSS Snowplow. The leadership they have demonstrated in support of military families goes above and beyond the call of duty.” November 11-17, 2018 is National SnowCare for Troops Awareness Week and is intended to raise the profile of the program and spotlight the efforts of the initiative’s loyal volunteers and the military families they ...
