The New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association proudly presents its 31st annual Trade Show and Conference, New Jersey Landscape 2008, on Wednesday, February 27, at the Meadowlands Expositions Center in Secaucus, N.J. This event brings Green Industry professionals together to experience a world of new ideas, methods and materials—all in one location. New Jersey Landscape 2008 will feature over 150 companies showcasing their new products, equipment and services in 350 exhibit booths. NJL 2008 is a great place to meet new vendors, renew relationships with suppliers, learn new business strategies and network with fellow business professionals. Show hours are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Preregistration fee is $20 for NJLCA members, $30 for nonmembers or $35 on the day of the show.

History of New Jersey Landscape

The roots of the New Jersey Landscape Trade Show and Conference started in 1977 as a small outdoor event with local suppliers in a county park with free beer as an attraction. As the contractors organization grew and the growth of the landscape industry expanded, so did the trade show. The event moved indoors and added a schedule of seminars by Rutgers Cooperative Extension Agents during the winter. This allowed contractors the opportunity to attend without interfering with work schedules.

After several successful years of continuous growth in several locations, the trade show committee made a bold decision to move the show and conference to Giants Stadium in Rutherford, N.J. This just happened to be the same year the N.Y. Giants won Super Bowl XXI. Needless to say, New Jersey Landscape was now on the state map. Again, the trade show experienced tremendous success and growth and after four short years was looking for a new location. In 1991, it moved a short distance to its current home, the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, N.J. Always striving to improve the Trade Show and Conference, it is firmly rooted and still growing.

Educational program and free DEP credits

This year’s educational conference includes a full schedule of informative and credit-earning opportunities. A three hour session for NJ DEP recertification credits will be presented by specialists from Rutgers Cooperative Extension/New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Stations. Also, during the morning program there will be a featured speaker, Jon Goldman of Brand Launcher/Lumpy Mail from Baltimore, Md., whose dynamic and highly creative style led him to be rated the “#1 Presenter for Takeaway Content, Usability and Presentation Style” by the Direct Marketing Association, and “Info-tainer of the Year” by the USPS. Goldman will present a 1.5-hour seminar entitled “Build Your Bottom Line with the Eight Secrets of Successful Marketing.” The NJLCA will also hold an open discussion on the current status of the proposed landscape licensing bill in the state of New Jersey.

In the afternoon, the conference will offer a variety of landscape business related seminars, including topics on landscape water feature installations, how to use a landscape plan to sell more jobs and upselling lawn care and tree/shrub services. The educational program is sure to offer something for everyone. Trade show admission includes all seminars, free of additional charge.

Trade show

The trade show, one of the largest in the state, offers attendees a chance to learn about and view the newest and most innovative products in the industry. Major exhibitors include equipment companies, truck dealers, nurseries, insurance companies, investment companies, irrigation supply, tree experts and dozens of additional firms offering information and demonstrations. The trade show floor is the place to meet new vendors, interact with fellow contractors and make your contacts for the upcoming season!
