Tidewater Purchases Engine Distribution Center
Tidewater Power Equipment, Virginia Beach, Va., has purchased Engine Distribution Center, an outdoor power equipment distribution company located in Greensboro, N.C. Effective immediately, EDC will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Tidewater. While EDC will continue to function in its own facility out of Greensboro, all Honda engines and their accompanying parts and accessories will now ship out of Tidewater’s Virginia Beach location, expanding TPE’s existing Honda engine territory to include North and South Carolina.
Nyquist Celebrates 20 Years
Melinda Nyquist celebrated 20 years with Commercial Turf & Tractor last August. Hired immediately after college, she now controls the service/contracting side of the company, which performs deep-tine aeration, topdressing, seeding, drainage, synthetic turf cleaning, and complete athletic field and greens renovation. Commercial Turf & Tractor sells such product lines as Wiedenmann, Maredo, First Products, Rotadairon, Massey Ferguson, WaterWick and JRM replacement parts.
Grounds Guys Receives Award
The Grounds Guys was selected for the 2011 Best of Virginia Beach Award in the retail landscaping category by the U.S. Commerce Association. Horizon Expands into Mid-Atlantic Market
Horizon Distributors, Inc. announced its expansion into the mid-Atlantic market with the acquisition of the G.L. Cornell Co. Based in Gaithersburg, Md., G.L. Cornell is a distributor of golf course equipment and irrigation products and a provider of equipment services, with sales throughout Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.
OSU Holds Turf Events
A turfgrass and landscape maintenance program workshop was held in Sulphur, Okla. The one-day workshop covered drought management, drought injury to ornamentals and trees, roadside weed control, turf disease diagnosis, use of the Oklahoma State University Turfgrass Diagnostics Lab and more. It was a cooperative effort among educators from the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service and OSU.
A two-day turfgrass management short course was held in Stillwater, Okla. A cooperative effort of the turf science faculty at the University of Arkansas and OSU, it covered the fundamentals of turf identification, selection, establishment, fertilization, mowing, irrigation, aeration, dethatching and pest management.
Kubota Partners with Compact Power
Kubota Tractor Corp. announced a strategic partnership with Compact Power Equipment Centers, allowing it to offer select construction equipment for rent within various locations of The Home Depot Tool Rental. Since 2008, CPEC has provided customers with towable rental equipment for a variety of projects. Kubota’s K008-3 excavator and BX25 tractor/loader-backhoe are currently available in about 100 Home Depot locations nationwide. CPEC hopes to place Kubota equipment in each of its 280 current locations, with a 2012 expansion goal of more than 400 additional locations.
