ArmorTech ALT 70 and Viceroy 70DF Fungicide Products Recalled

Effective immediately, certain batches of the turf fungicide product marketed under the brand names ArmorTech ALT 70 and Viceroy 70DF are being voluntarily recalled by NovaSource, a business unit of Tessenderlo Kerley, Inc. (TKI).

An intensive laboratory investigation has revealed a trace amount of the herbicide sulfometuron methyl in the fungicide formulation. This issue appears to be confined to ALT 70 and Viceroy 70DF produced in 2013 bearing batch codes that begin with the number 6 (e.g., 6101701).

In early June 2015, United Turf Alliance, LLC voluntarily stopped sale of ALT 70. This step was taken following reports of compromised turfgrass after the product was applied to bentgrass/Poa putting greens, collars and approaches. Similar incidents have been reported following the application of Viceroy 70DF.

Instructions for Alt 70 and Viceroy 70DF users:

  • Do not use or apply Alt 70 or Viceroy 70DF with batch numbers starting with the number 6 (e.g., 6101701).
  • Return these products to the point of sale or to the product distributors, for full credit, including reimbursement of costs associated with the return:
    • Alt 70 – United Turf Alliance, LLC
    • Viceroy 70DF – United Phosphorous, Inc.

A complete investigation is underway and additional information including turf management options for mitigating potential turf injury and other information will be shared on two websites established to communicate with the marketplace: alt70info.com and viceroyturfinfo.com (live 6/18/15).
