EAST LANSING, Mich. – Another impressive slate of irrigation professionals submitted projects for consideration for the American Society of Irrigation Consultants’ 2015 Annual Excellence in Irrigation Awards.

ASIC’s annual National Excellence in Irrigation Awards recognize the sound science and judgment required of an independent irrigation consultant. Each year, Honor and Merit Awards, independently judged by an academic team at Cal Poly Pomona and Kansas State University, are given based on the quality of project planning and design in functionalism, environmental responsibility and relevance.

This year’s ASIC Merit Award Winners are:

Ken Merboth, Water Scape Inc., Lincoln, NE
Residential Category
Creal Residence, Prairie Village, Kansas

The design team was tasked with designing a system that reduced water by 50 percent over the existing irrigation system and landscape. Meeting the goal required a collaborative effort between the landscape architect, irrigation consultant, irrigation contractor and an owner commitment to sustainability and good stewardship of our precious natural resource of water.

Bob Scott, Irrigation Consultant Services, Conyers, GA
Golf Category
Stone Mountain Golf Course-Pumping System; Stone Mountain, GA

Any large scale pump station renovation project requires professional expertise and a full commitment to sound planning, execution and operation to ensure all goes smoothly and as planned. On this particular project, the degree of difficulty was compounded by the project location in a historically significant and environmentally protected area. The pump station needed to be located 120’ from the shoreline of Stone Mountain Lake, adjacent to Stone Mountain, Georgia. Construction in the lake and in the shoreline buffer was prohibited, necessitating some creative solutions by the irrigation consultant.
