HESSTON, Kan. — Excel Industries Inc. has announced that it will open a facility at Logistics Park Kansas City (LPKC) in Edgerton, Kansas. Excel plans to create 200 new jobs at LPKC. The company’s new worksite will include warehousing and distribution space and eventually manufacture an existing product line.

“We are excited about the possibility of making Kansas City the primary distribution center for our products,” said Bob Mullet, Excel vice president. “It puts us closer to the geographic center of our customers, and the strength of Kansas City as a national distribution point will allow us to serve our dealers in a more timely and cost-efficient manner.”

In addition to its planned expansion in Edgerton, Excel expects continued growth of employment at its headquarters in Hesston during the next several years to facilitate the introduction of new product lines.

BNSF Railway, the city of Edgerton, the Harvey County Economic Development Council, the Kansas City Area Development Council, KC SmartPort, KCP&L, NorthPoint Development, Southwest Johnson County Economic Development Corporation and the Kansas Department of Commerce partnered with Excel to support the company’s expansion.

Excel was founded in Hesston in 1960 and is a third-generation family-owned business. It is one of the leading manufacturers of consumer and professional mowing equipment, sold through the Hustler Turf Equipment and BigDog Mower Company brands. Excel exports its products to more than 30 countries. In 2013, Excel won the Kansas Governor’s Exporter of the Year award.
