GLENVIEW, Ill. – While conceding leaf blowers are noisy, members of Glenview’s plan commission resisted restricting their use when amending the village’s noise ordinance.

After residents and officials expressed concern, commissioners considered prohibiting the operation of gas-powered leaf blowers for more than 30 minutes per day between May 15 and Sept. 30, a limitation the Village of Wilmette imposes. But they decided against putting specific restrictions on a certain type of landscaping equipment.

The landscape maintenance equipment permissible hours of operations are 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. or sunset, whichever is earlier, from Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. or sunset on Sundays. The hours for operation of landscaping equipment used at parks, forest preserves, golf courses and other similar land were extended by about two more hours, allowing workers to start at 5 a.m. every day.
