This past winter was long and cold and offered up plenty of snow and ice for much of the Great Lakes region, the Northeast and New England. Not surprisingly, not every lawn in the region—including some of the lawns that are getting professional care—is in tip-top shape.
If some of your lawns are showing dead spots of weak turf, don’t necessarily blame the damage on grubs. Kevin Frank, Michigan State University Extension, says to look carefully to find the real cause of the problems.
Yes, grubs could be at fault (click here for information on grub control), but the problem could be dog spots or deicing damage. So check first before swinging into treatment mode.
