Mike Johanns Joins Deere & Co. Board

WASHINGTON, D.C. – After decades of government work, Mike Johanns is turning to the corporate world.

Nebraska’s former governor and just-retired U.S. senator is joining the board of Deere & Co. A Republican, Johanns served more than two years as the secretary of agriculture under President George W. Bush.

In that job, he crisscrossed the globe negotiating trade agreements and trying to pry open overseas markets for U.S. producers. That kind of experience will come in handy given that selling products around the world is essential to Deere’s success.

Johanns stressed that he won’t be doing any direct lobbying of his former Capitol Hill colleagues or their aides on behalf of the company.
