Years in the making, the USDA’s new plant hardiness zone map was unveiled late in January. This is the first update of the map since 1990, and the new tool offers a GIS-based interactive format and is Web friendly for quick and easy access.

Many zone boundaries have shifted by an approximate 5-degree warmer half-zone, and two new zones have been added: Included for the first time are Zones 12 (50 to 60 degrees F) and 13 (60 to 70 degrees F).
