PLANET AEF Awards Scholarships to 47 Students

FT. COLLINS, Colo. – The PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation (PLANET AEF) presented scholarships and awards to 47 students at the 38th annual PLANET Student Career Days  at Colorado State University here recently.

The scholarships were presented at a special reception, sponsored by STIHL Inc., which kicked off the event on March 20. In 2014 alone, the PLANET AEF has given a total of $79,300 in awards and scholarships. A list of the recipients of the PLANET AEF scholarships and awards can be found on the PLANET AEF website.

The PLANET AEF Board of Directors congratulates this year’s scholarship recipients,” said Tom Fochtman, Landscape Industry Certified, PLANET AEF president. “It’s exciting to see the passion that lies within these students. Our industry will be that much stronger with these future leaders.”

This year’s PLANET AEF President’s Scholarship, in the amount of $3,000, was awarded to Jamie Helbig from Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. The President’s Scholarship is awarded by the PLANET AEF judging panel, which looks for a student who demonstrates all the criteria set forth by the PLANET AEF Board of Directors and who has high scholastic achievements, industry-related activities, and community service.

At the Closing Ceremonies held on March 10, the Foundation also awarded the three, top-scoring Student Career Days students, referred to as the event’s Superstars, a total of $3,000:

1st Place – $1,500      Hayden Angelotta, Cuyahoga Community College 

2nd Place -$1,000      Matt Case, Alamance Community College

3rd Place – $500        Jeff Elshoff, Michigan State University
