MARYSVILLE, Ohio—The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company welcomed the first day of spring 2015 by announcing the 2015 GRO1000 Grassroots Grant winners. More than 100 civic and nonprofit organizations across the U.S. will receive grants to support public gardens and green spaces.

Now in its fifth year, the Grassroots Grants are part of the company’s GRO1000 commitment to advance the creation of more than 1,000 community gardens and green spaces in the U.S., Canada and Europe by 2018, in conjunction with its 150th anniversary.

GRO1000 funds have supported local beautification projects, public service opportunities and produce donations in more than 500 communities across the U.S., Canada and Europe since 2011. The grants are awarded to nonprofit, civic organizations that are working to create or sustain public greenscapes in their communities. A full list of this year’s recipients can be found at www.GRO1000.com.

In addition to the Grassroots Grants, ScottsMiracle-Gro and its national partners, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Plant A Row for the Hungry, the Garden Writers Association, the National Gardening Association and Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, will build public community gardens and green spaces in Dallas, Texas; Hartford, Connecticut; Rochester, New York; and West Sacramento, California, in 2015.

The city of Detroit was also selected for a GRO1000 grant in February as the winner of the first ever “GRO1000 People’s Choice Community Garden Grant,” which was determined by public voting.
