Hover Named ACI President

The American Concrete Institute announced Kenneth C. Hover as its new president. Hover assumes the post after the passing of president Richard D. Stehly on September 18, 2010. In accordance with the bylaws of the institute, in the event that a current president is no longer able to continue his term, the senior vice president will complete the term. Hover is a professor of civil and environmental engineering and Stephen Weiss Presidential Fellow at Cornell University. He has been a member of ACI since 1980 and was elected vice president in the spring of 2009.

AEM Kicks Off “I Make America” Campaign

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers and Mike Rowe, creator and host of Discovery Channel’s “Dirty Jobs,” joined forces for the launch of “I Make America,” a national grassroots campaign to promote U.S. manufacturing jobs through infrastructure investment and passage of export agreements. The campaign’s website, www.imakeamerica.com, highlights the disproportionate job losses in the equipment manufacturing sector and related industries and provides facts on benefits to American prosperity from supporting policies that protect and grow this industry. Additionally, “I Make America” showcases short videos at www.adayinamericanlife.com from employees and small business owners around the country telling real-life stories of how manufacturing impacts the national economy.

Arlington Named PLANET Trailblazer

The Professional Landcare Network named Richard Arlington as a Trailblazer. Arlington is president of Rich Arlington & Associates and Arlington Lawncare, Inc. in Erie, Pa., as well as consultant and business manager of Affiliated Grounds Maintenance Group, Inc., based in Lake City, Pa. Trailblazers are a select group of individuals nominated by their peers as dedicated professionals who have made significant and long-term contributions to the green industry.
