WLCA Announces Scholarship Recipients

The Wisconsin Landscape Contractors Association Metro Milwaukee Chapter announced this year’s scholarship recipients. They are Katelyn R. Smith, Best Block Achievement Award; Kevin Yeska, Del Lied Memorial Grant; Matthew Wied, Ed Fitting Scholarship; Bonnie Reichert, Ron Klokner Education Grant; Katherine Smaglik, Bob Walkoe Memorial Grant; Paige Ida, Jim Bennett Education Grant; Katee Longmore, John Orton Scholarship; Emily Biagi, WLCA-MMC Scholarship; and Ryan Lindsley, Tom Oliver Scholarship. Lindsley also received the Don Groth Green Industry Scholarship from the Wisconsin Green Industry Federation.

PrimeraTurf Joins IAP

PrimeraTurf announced it has been accepted as a member owner of Independent Agribusiness Professionals. The addition to IAP allows PrimeraTurf to extend turf and ornamental touch and opportunity to the IAP community. Each organization effectively manages a breadth of common supplier relationships that can benefit the other. There is also a great deal of overlap in supplier participation, key products and active ingredients, regulatory and logistical requirements, and industry best practices across agricultural and turf and ornamental distribution.

Bobcat Expands Operations

Bobcat Co. and Menlo Worldwide Logistics announced the expansion of operations at Bobcat’s manufacturing support center in Bismarck, N.D. Bobcat also announced plans to acquire additional land at the Northern Plains Commerce Center to create an Innovation Center for product development and testing.

Jacobsen Expands Midwest Presence

Jacobsen has added three new dealers in the Midwest, increasing its presence in the region to five locations. Lakeshore Golf & Turf, based in Wyoming, Mich., will cover western and northern Michigan. Wolf Creek Co., with locations in Cincinnati and Trotwood, Ohio, as well as Lexington and Louisville, Ky., will serve Ohio, southern Indiana and all of Kentucky. Midwest Golf & Turf, located in Novi, Mich., and Indianapolis, Ind., will serve mid and northern Indiana as well as eastern Michigan and the Toledo, Ohio, area.

Loyola Adds Green Roof

In an ongoing effort to promote sustainability by reducing the volume and velocity of stormwater runoff, Loyola University installed a green roof on Cuneo Hall, a new academic building. The 2,400-square-foot installation is Loyola’s seventh green roof. The LiveRoof hybrid green roof system was selected for the project.

IA Kicks Off Smart Irrigation Month Campaign

The Irrigation Association announced preparations for Smart Irrigation Month, an initiative dedicated to increasing public awareness of the value of water-use efficiency and water-saving products, practices and services. It takes place in July, traditionally the month of peak demand in North America. Following the campaign, participants are invited to submit their marketing materials by August 31, 2012, and participate in the Smart Marketing Contest. Rossi Named TOCA Environmental Communicator of the Year

Dr. Frank Rossi, associate professor and extension turfgrass specialist at Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., has been named the 2012 TOCA Environmental Communicator of the Year. The program is sponsored by Project EverGreen. Rossi is also a contributor to TurfNetTV and writes the “Frankly Speaking” blog on . He is a regular speaker at major conferences on environmental issues throughout the year.

U.S. Lawns Promotes Employee Wellness

For the last five years, U.S. Lawns, Orlando, Fla., has found ways to add more programs every year to help promote healthy lifestyles for its home office staff. Programs include the IOA Corporate 5k walk/run, twice-a-day walk program, biometric screenings, “Lunch & Learn” sessions, Desk Pilates, “Healthy Snack Basket” program and stretching classes.

New Holland Sponsors PLANET Event

New Holland Construction announced it is the Platinum sponsor of the Professional Landcare Network’s 16th annual Renewal & Remembrance landscaping event scheduled for July 9, 2012, at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. New Holland will donate the use of equipment to help dig, load and move mulch, lime and other materials to enhance the beauty of the military cemetery and national landmark.

Grasshopper Launches Calculator Tool

The Grasshopper Co. announced a new online tool designed to calculate fuel costs and impacts of commercial mowing equipment. The Fuel and Emissions Calculator, available at www.grasshopperfuelsavings.com, presents visitors with fuel costs and savings comparisons, greenhouse and smog-forming gas emissions per hour of mowing, and overall profitability comparisons for gasoline, propane and diesel fuel.

Alexander Joins Curtis Industries

Curtis Industries LLC announced that Michael Alexander has joined the company as vice president of marketing and sales, reporting to John Rachwalski, president and CEO. Alexander comes to Curtis from Club Car Corp., where he served as director of global business development, playing a significant role in growing the business and the industry.

Bayer Announces New Packaging Size, Price Structure

Environmental Science, a division of Bayer CropScience LP, is now offering a new 22-pound package size of its fire ant control product TopChoice. The 22-pound bag, which treats about 11,000 square feet, will be offered in addition to the 50-pound option already available. There is also a lower price for pallet quantities of TopChoice purchases.

Fred Marvin Promotes Gross

Fred Marvin Associates has promoted Amanda Gross from executive assistant to marketing and sales administrator. She will oversee the company’s advertising, marketing and strategic planning, as well as manage the company’s day-to-day operations and sales. Gross holds a bachelor’s degree in business and organizational communications from the University of Akron.
