The Professional Landcare Network will hold a community service project, PLANET Gives Back,” on Wednesday, Oct. 26, during the 2011 Green Industry Conference in Louisville, Ky. The conference, along with its trade show (GIE+EXPO), brings more than $7 million each year in direct economic impact to Louisville.
PLANET has teamed up with Metro United Way, a local United Way affiliate, and a group of volunteers to enhance four facilities in downtown Louisville. Project sites include Bridgehaven Mental Health Services, Heuser Hearing Institute, The Center for Women and Families, and Engelhard Elementary School. PLANET Gives Back complements PLANET’s two other annual service projects-the nationwide PLANET Day of Service, held in April, and Renewal & Remembrance, held each July at Arlington National Cemetery just outside of Washington, D.C.
“This Louisville project further amplifies PLANET’s history of giving back across the country,” said Glenn Jacobsen, Landscape Industry Certified Manager and PLANET board member. “PLANET Gives Back provides yet another opportunity for our members to beautify another community, showcase their skills, improve the environment, and solidify partnerships with community organizations. We were so proud to be able to volunteer our resources and skills to further help the city of Louisville.”
PLANET members will plant shrubs and flowers, prune, mulch, clean up areas, install water features and plant turfgrass.
The lead sponsor for PLANET Gives Back is John Deere and the supporting sponsor is STIHL, Inc.
