Pomp's Tire Service has its beginning going way back to 1939 when Andrew "Sparky" Pomprowitz opened a warehouse, passenger and commercial wholesale operation on Roosevelt Street in Green Bay, WI. He assumed the trade name "Pomprowitz Tire Company". He continued to expand at this location until a fire in February 1942 burned his entire stock and facilities. The stock was replenished and the base of operations were rebuilt and occupied in combination with Pomprowitz Appliance Co. When Sparky went off to serve his country in June of 1942, his brothers Joe and John continued to operate the business until his return in 1944.
In 1952, a step into recapping occurred. The business was incorporated and the name changed to Pomp's Recap Service, Inc. In 1956 a move was completed into the present Green Bay East location on Cedar Street in Green Bay.
In 1964, Sparky passed away and as of January 1, 1965 the business was purchased by Roger Wochinske. With a view toward expansion, additional personnel were hired and a concentrated effort toward commercial sales, service and recapping was accomplished.
In late 1965, the first venture into additional outlets occurred with the purchase of an existing tire company in Shawano, WI. In 1967 our hot recapping process was supplemented with the Bandag cold recap process. This process was expanded in 1970 and again in 1973.
With the foundation laid and the formula of great service and fair prices proving to be successful, Pomp's continued to expand - in locations and services offered. From that single location with five employees in Green Bay, WI purchased by Roger Wochinske in 1965, Pomp's has remained in the Wochinske family and as of the end of 2010 has grown to 73 stores, 11 retread plants, one wheel manufacturing facility and two original equipment manufacturing facilities with over 1100 employees in eight states.
